The Liebster Award

Thank you so much, Tasha Giacometto of TryAllMama.com for the Liebster award nomination! I'm excited about this opportunity to share more about myself and promote other awesome bloggers.

QUESTIONS FOR ME
1. What is your primary motivator in life? (What makes you wake up every day?)
My husband and our daughter.

2. What is your signature dish?
I am really learning the basics of cooking now... at age 32! I've made a few things that made me really proud, but my signature has probably become a chicken, broccoli and rice casserole. It's a nod to my mamma's cooking when I was a kid! It's delicious, very re-heatable, easy and somewhat healthy.

4. What do you do for fun?
Lately, it seems like I work for fun! When I'm not with the baby, I'm blogging or working on a top secret passion project with a couple of former colleagues. When I'm not with our baby girl, you can probably find me on the computer. Although I wish I could say you'd probably find me hiking or reading, or getting together with the gals for wine.

5. What’s your favorite social media platform?
Probably Instagram. But I have a lot of older relatives and long-distance pals I use Facebook to communicate with. I just joined Twitter, so I'm hoping I start to like that one more!

6. Name one secret indulgence?
I don't think it's a secret... red wine and an American Spirit Yellow cigarette on my back patio.

7. What is your favorite place?
Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina - where we got married last year

8. What good book have you read recently?
Gone With The Wind

9. What’s one of your bucket list items?
Skydiving - and I've already done it!

10. What’s your home decor style? (Contemporary, modern, etc)
Eclectic. I always have a lot of bright blues, deep reds and dark browns. And all different styles! I have a classic farmhouse hutch and a red asian-inspired cabinet in the same room.

11. Yoga or Cross Fit?
Yoga, all the way. Preferably Bikram.

12. Give one of your goals for 2016?
Stress less.

10 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME
  1. I think I am addicted to Candy Crush.
  2. I played a Chinese Ninja in a musical production in High School. (I'm a very white, blonde girl.)
  3. I took 5 years of voice lessons in High School and still can't sing to save my life.
  4. I'm a red belt in Tae Kwon Do and can count to 30 in Korean.
  5. I studied in Granada, Spain for 6 months and learned very little Spanish while I was there.
  6. I have my TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) certificate.
  7. I was born in Salem, VA. As a kid, I would just tell people I was born in Salem and let them assume I meant MA and that I was a witch.
  8. I moved from IL to CA with my family when I was 13.
  9. I love bonfires.
  10. I love swimming.

Participation Trophy Woes

The image is taken from this article .  I'm a millennial, but an older one. I was born in 1984 which I believe is the beginning point of the millennial generation. I want to talk about a specific aspect of growing up millennial: participation trophies. These were somewhat regular in my childhood. Although they were not always guaranteed, they were around enough to matter in critical times during my development. I had some participation trophies, while I also had some other earned trophies. However, those participation trophies had an impact on the "earned" trophies. For me getting participation trophies taught me to devalue all trophies. When I was a junior or senior in high school, my mom found several awards I'd won shoved in a drawer in my bedroom. One such trophy was a writing award, another was my "Rookie of the Year" plaque I'd earned for diving into the Youth & Government program gung-ho even though it was my first year. I'd just jo

Deplin

Some may be surprised that I decided to write about this. It's personal stuff. But after a lot of thought, I decided to share anyway because I found something really beneficial to my health. Anyone who knows me really well knows that I have struggled with anxiety and depression at different times throughout my life. Anyone who sort of knows me has probably heard me talk about this and been surprised. You may fall into that second category now. I'm naturally a fairly nervous person. What may seem very small and insignificant things to some can send me into a tailspin. I may worry over a mistake on a work project or something stupid I said at a party for weeks after the incident. I get stomach aches when this happens. I give just as much attention to worrying about the future as I do the past, and it results in even more stomach aches. In my late twenties, I was pretty sick of feeling sick to my stomach from all this worrying all the time. So I started seeing a therapis
